How to measure a bigger dog

Bigger dogs vary a lot in shape, so measuring beats guessing by breed.

  • Neck: around the base of the neck. This matters most for turtlenecks and collars.
  • Chest: around the deepest part of the ribcage, behind the front legs.
  • Back length: from the base of the neck to the base of the tail.

Compare these with the size information on the product page. Deep-chested dogs often need to size up.

Holiday tips for big dogs

  • Try outfits on early. Let your dog get used to it with treats and praise.
  • Check the fit. Two fingers should slide under the neck and chest.
  • Photo tip: sit or kneel so the camera is at your dog's eye level, and use daylight from a window.
  • Care: hand wash knitwear in cool water and lay it flat to dry so it keeps its shape.
  • Supervise: always keep an eye on your dog while it wears clothes, and take them off after the fun.
